Medusa I

Medusa I is a toy cabinet. The bust image is taken from a statue of Perseus slaying Medusa. Rather than going with the common images of him holding the already severed head, I decided to go with one where she is still alive and fighting. Why? Because vibes.

The front of the case is made from three separate pieces of wood carved from maple and mounted on black walnut . The rest of the case is also made of wood and the sides are covered in red alligator embossed leather. It has a soft touch and is finished with brass hardware including a brass cobra handle and locking hasp.

Each toy in the set is made with a cobra skin. The cobra head is preserved with the skull inside to maintain its shape. The rest of the cobra is  used in the shaft of the handle over an oak core.

Four of the five toys bear hoods while the last cobra, the scorpion, does not. This is intentional due to the length of the scorpion so that twisting wrist motions do not catch on the cobra hood.

The case also contains a full set of leather restrains including a collar, a pair of ankle cuffs and a pair of wrist cuffs. They are accented with cobra skin.

Waterbuffalo Flogger- Silver waterbuffalo with black tipping and a white, brown and grey cobra handle. Waterbuffalo is thick with a slightly stiff temper. I recommend it for medium to heavy impact play

Scorpion- This is the one snake without a hood. This in intentional to make using the quirt easier. The twisting motion many people use for these toys is interrupted by the cobra hood. The snake is still a cobra, just with an amended hide. The stinger of the scorpion is reinforced with a latigo bone under black suede

Quirt- The handle of the quirt is another white cobra with grey and black markings. The body of the tail is braided in black and silver checkered paracord. The tail is thick black latigo leather. Recommended for very heavy impact.

Cat O Nine Tails- I made this one in the traditional style with the blood knots for the braided ends. Depending on use this could be from medium to high intensity play. The leather used is brown with black and dark brown antiquing.

Thumper- The tassels on this thumper are thick chocolate soft bison. This one packs a punch. Very much on the thuddy side and heavy.

This set is tail heavy in almost every piece. Due to the use of the cobra heads traditional handle balancing was not available. The case has pouch built into the side to contain the tails and make it easier to close the cabinet.

The case has one light on the restraint side. It is rechargeable vis USB-C. 

Special considerations for someone purchasing this set are as follows; The cobras are a natural material vulnerable to things like bugs and mildew. They should be stored in the Medusa case in a cool and dry environment. 

Care should be taken when handling these like removing rings or jewelry that can scratch the hides. The heads are also real. They can be damaged by carelessness. The ideal home for this set is someone who is meticulous in their toy care and exacting in their use. They are made to play and are serious toys built to be used, but they need a bit more TLC than our standard pieces.
